01 — Who We Are

A nexus for Canada's AI future.

Visionary Minds
Responsible Technology
Nexus

VMRTN is a Canadian organization dedicated to advancing responsible artificial intelligence and emerging technology through education, advocacy, collaboration, and community empowerment. Our work focuses on helping Canadians build the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to participate in an increasingly AI-powered economy and society.

Technology is changing how Canadians learn, work, build businesses, communicate, and participate in society. Artificial intelligence is accelerating that change. We believe every Canadian should have the opportunity to understand these technologies — and benefit from them.

Technology should expand opportunity — not create new barriers.

As a nexus, we bring together communities, educators, organizations, businesses, and technology leaders. Our goal is simple: help Canadians not only adapt to technological change, but participate in shaping it.

AI literacy
AI literacy is the ability to understand how artificial intelligence works, use it effectively, evaluate its outputs critically, and participate in decisions about how AI is used in our communities.
Responsible technology
Responsible technology is technology that is safe, transparent, accountable, and human-centred — designed and used in ways that protect privacy and expand opportunity, not create new barriers.

02 — Vision & Mission

Where we're going. What we'll do to get there.

Our Vision

A Canada where everyone belongs in the AI era.

"A Canada where everyone has the knowledge, access, and opportunity to benefit from artificial intelligence and emerging technologies."

Deliberately broad — serving everyone, with a strong commitment to people and communities that face barriers to technology adoption.

Our Mission

Advancing literacy, responsibility, and access.

"To advance AI literacy, responsible technology adoption, and equitable access to digital opportunities across Canada."

03 — What We Stand For

Five core principles. One responsible future.

01

AI for All

AI should not be limited to technology companies, researchers, or people with advanced technical backgrounds. Every Canadian should have the opportunity to learn how AI works and understand how it can be used in everyday life, education, employment, business, and community development.

Access · Literacy · Participation
02

Responsible Technology

We support innovation while recognizing the importance of privacy, security, transparency, accountability, safety, and human oversight. VMRTN is pro-innovation and pro-responsibility.

Privacy · Safety · Oversight
03

Digital Inclusion

Access to technology is increasingly connected to access to opportunity. We work to reduce barriers to technology education, digital skills, AI tools, and emerging career opportunities — so no community is left behind.

Equity · Skills · Opportunity
04

Lifelong Learning

AI is changing quickly. Canadians need opportunities to continually learn, adapt, experiment, and develop new skills throughout their careers and lives.

Adapt · Experiment · Grow
05

Human-Centred Innovation

Technology should serve people. We advocate for technology that strengthens communities, creates opportunity, and improves services — not technology for technology's sake.

People First · Community Strong

04 — Our Relationship With AI for All

What "AI for All" means to VMRTN.

"Achieving AI for All requires more than developing AI — it requires helping Canadians understand it, use it, question it, and participate in shaping its future."

VMRTN strongly supports the Government of Canada's AI for All vision and its goal of ensuring Canadians have the skills, opportunities, and infrastructure needed to benefit from artificial intelligence. That distinction — between developing AI and helping people participate in its future — is one of our strongest commitments.

The VMRTN Framework — five steps to participation.

A FUTURE NATIONAL PROGRAM ARCHITECTURE
Step 01 / Literacy

Learn AI

Plain-language understanding of how AI works, where it appears in daily life, and what it means for work and society — confidence first, tools second.

  • AI fundamentals in everyday language
  • How AI shapes services, media, and work

  • Spotting misinformation, deepfakes & fraud
  • Privacy, data protection & security habits
  • Ethics, copyright & accountable use
Step 04 / Creation

Create with AI

Opportunities to experiment, innovate, and build — moving Canadians from users to creators.

  • Maker labs, challenges & community projects
  • Prototyping solutions for local problems
  • Pathways from curiosity to building
Step 05 / Participation

07 — Why VMRTN

Not the technology itself — the people it affects.

We are not an AI company.

We are not a coding school.

We are not simply an advocacy organization.

We are the nexus connecting Canadians to the knowledge, resources, relationships, and opportunities needed to navigate the AI era.
